Nagpur. The people of Dharampeth zone of the city are throwing maximum garbage on the roads while the people of Mangalwari zone are the least. This has been revealed from the data of the Solid Waste Management Department (SWM) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). After analyzing the data of Solid Waste Management Department from 17 to 23 January i.e. 1 week, it was found that during this period about 93.92 metric tonnes (MT) of garbage was collected from Dharampeth zone. Surprisingly, this is a very small area of the city and there is less commercial activities and markets. This shows that there is a lack of civic sense among the people living in the Dharampeth zone area.
The people here are not serious about cleanliness. After this, 92.54 metric tonnes of garbage was collected from Gandhibagh zone, in which dry waste was more. This zone includes areas like Mahal, Chitnis Park. Commercial activities and markets are highest here. It is clear from this that the shopkeepers and people here are also careless about throwing garbage on the road. A similar scene of dirt is seen on the roads of Nehrunagar zone.
79.66 metric tonnes of garbage was collected from this zone. 76.62 metric tonnes of garbage was collected from Dhantoli zone, which includes Cotton Market, Ganeshpeth etc. Similarly, 74.71 metric tonne is being thrown from Lakdganj zone, 73.71 metric tonne from Laxminagar zone, 72.81 metric tonne from Satranjipura zone, 51.36 metric tonne from Ashinagar zone, 49.13 metric tonne from Hanuman Nagar zone. The least 45.72 metric tonnes of garbage is being dumped on the roads from the Mangalwari zone.
333 Garbage Dump Location Marked
Regular door to door collection of garbage is being done by NMC, yet people are dumping garbage unabated at about 333 places in the city. The Solid Waste Management Department has identified 209 garbage dump locations from Zone 1 to Zone 5 while from Zone 6 to Zone 10 i.e. 124 garbage dump locations in the remaining 5 zones.
The danger of falling behind in the cleanliness survey
Last time the NMC got less marks in the cleanliness survey due to lack of cleanliness of the roads. Nagpur had slipped from 18th place to 23rd place last time in the survey. If the committees associated with the cleanliness campaign did not monitor properly and did not make people aware about cleanliness, then this time also Nagpur will not be able to bring better ranking in the Swachh Bharat survey. Many people say that in the crowded market, the NMC should ensure the arrangement of garbage collection from the roads twice a day.
