Lucknow: With the announcement of the date of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the administrative machinery became active in all the districts of the state to follow it and from Saturday evening, along with the removal of hoarding-banners, posters. The Election Commission on Saturday implemented the model code of conduct in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, along with fixing the date of assembly elections.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla told PTI on Sunday, “The model code of conduct has come into force in the state and it will be implemented in letter and spirit.” “All the District Magistrates/District Election Officers have been given the responsibility and they will send their regular reports. With the implementation of the model code of conduct, on the instructions of the district magistrates in all the districts of the state, the bodies and other administrative units started removing the banners, posters, hoardings as well as removing the slogans written on the walls.
It is to be mentioned that there are 403 assembly constituencies in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Police, administration and civic officials in the state have taken the lead to ensure the code of conduct is followed and for this, observers will also be appointed in all the assembly constituencies. The Election Commission has also banned election rallies, road shows, pad yatras and cycle rallies till January 15.
