Mumbai: The MMRDA has completed the construction of the wall to prevent slipping of Bandongri Hill located near the Western Express Highway in the western suburb of Malad-Kandivali. It was told that a special artistic wall has been made to cover this hill. The steel mesh used in this was imported from Switzerland.
It is noteworthy that during the monsoon, there was a danger of landslides due to the sliding of this hill of Mumbai. In 2020, due to heavy rains, there was a major landslide on the Western Express near the hill, which affected the traffic. In order to avoid any accidents in future, MMRDA has decided to build a specially designed security wall.
Prestressed Buttress Technique
According to MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas, rain water seepage and drainage gallery have been made under the scheme to protect the hill from erosion and landslides. This retaining wall of Prestressed Buttress Technology has steel wires inserted over the parent rock, which does not allow the loose rock to collapse. According to the commissioner, this new wall will be considered for giving an artistic look. About Rs 15 crore has been spent on this project.
