Sports speak present hosts Mike Felger and Jim Murray for the second straight week talked in regards to the latest layoffs at 98.5 The Sports Hub, and this time the net feed didn’t reduce out on them.
Every week in the past throughout their “Off-Air Show” on Facebook, the feed instantly froze because the pair from the extraordinarily standard and extremely rated “Felger & Mazz” mentioned the layoffs at 98.5.
“Then the plug got pulled or whatever the (expletive) happened,” Murray stated on this week’s “Off-Air Show,” as he chuckled.
“I think it was an innocent thing,” Felger responded. “I think the internet went down in the whole office because the radio, (Adam) Jones was on at the time, and he lost his stream at the exact same time.”
98.5 The Sports Hub blamed it on technical difficulties.
“The timing, though,” Murray added.
“The timing was something,” Felger stated. “Who knows, but my guess is it was a coincidence, but you never know.”
Felger, a Herald alum, talked in regards to the frustration that comes with the layoffs occurring at a flourishing station.
“This station is individually really successful, and it’s not just ratings,” stated Felger, as he famous the excessive advert income.
98.5 The Sports Hub is the fifth top-billing station within the nation.
“That’s even more important than the ratings we get on the station,” Felger added. “They generate revenue, and they’re still cutting, so that’s hard to square in your own head.”
98.5 is underneath the Beasley Media Group umbrella.
“They own a lot of stations, and I think what unfortunately ends up happening is a successful station ends up having to pick up the slack for other stations in other markets that aren’t performing as well,” Murray stated.
“It’s all interconnected, so you get swept up in the rest of the company, which again, that’s hard,” Felger added.
“It blows,” Murray stated.
The Herald reached out to Beasley Media Group which didn’t instantly reply to touch upon Thursday.
Beasley Media Group has been shedding staff at stations throughout the nation. Recently, 98.5 staff Christian Arcand and Mike Lockhart had been laid off.
Then, “Toucher and Rich” co-host Rich Shertenlieb introduced he was bringing Lockhart again and paying his full wage.
A viewer requested Felger if he would preserve Murray on and pay his wage if he was laid off sooner or later.
“It’s a tough question,” Felger responded. “I don’t know. I haven’t been introduced it. As nice of a factor as what Rich did — and he deserves a number of credit score for it, and that’s a sacrifice on his half, and once more all of the credit score on the earth to him — that lets the corporate off the hook.
“Now the company is getting product for free,” Felger added. “Lockhart is a big part of their show and increases how good their show is, and increases the value and the quality of their show, and they’re getting it for free.”
