The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday and a day of mourning on Monday in honor of the singer Lata Mangeshkar. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who enthralled millions with her golden voice, died at the age of 92 in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday. She was found infected with the corona virus.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) informed about a day of mourning and a public holiday. Earlier, the central government had announced two days of state mourning in honor of Swar Kokila. Official sources said the national flag will remain at half-mast across India from February 6 to February 7 and there will be no entertainment program during this period.

All schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed today.
The Bombay High Court and the courts under the jurisdiction of the Bombay High Court will also observe a holiday today to condole the demise of the famous singer.
The meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India will now be held on February 8-10 instead of February 7-9.
The MPC meeting has been rescheduled for February 8-10, with February 7, 2022 being declared a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 by the Government of Maharashtra in honor of the Bharat Ratna.
The West Bengal government has also declared a half-day holiday today and urged the administration to play Lata Mangeshkar’s songs at important intersections across the state for 15 days.
Other states like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have also declared two days of state mourning in honor of the music queen.
