Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday informed the Bombay High Court that the current COVID-19 situation in the city and its adjoining areas is “under control” and people need not panic. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice MS Karnik was informed by senior advocate Anil Sakhre that in the current third wave of corona virus in Mumbai, there is a gradual decline in the cases.
Sakhre also told the bench that as per the data available till January 15, the number of patients undergoing treatment for the infection in the city was 84,352 of which seven per cent patients required hospitalization and three per cent needed oxygen support and 0.7 per cent. He needed a ventilator.
He presented a detailed note on behalf of the civic body which details the number of patients treated, oxygen supply, stock of medicines, beds available in hospitals etc. Sakhre said, “We have adequate oxygen supply, beds are available in the hospital. There is no reason to panic.”
The bench then asked whether the civic body was saying that the situation in Mumbai was completely under control. To which the senior advocate replied in the affirmative. Sakhre said, “Yes, everything is under control now. Cases are coming down. From January 6 to January 9, the number of infection cases had reached 20,000. But on January 15, the cases had come down to 10,000 and in the last three days it has come down to 7,000.”
