Delhi (Delhi) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday accused the central government of trying to rule the national capital through backdoor. Sisodia claimed that the Union Cabinet has approved a proposal under which the Lieutenant Governor will be given more powers. According to media reports, the Center on Wednesday approved the amendment in the Government of NCT Delhi Act.
Reacting to these reports, AAP leader Sisodia said that this decision is against democracy, the Constitution and the will of the citizens of Delhi. He said that the Central Government has introduced a law in the Cabinet, from which power will be taken away from the elected government of Delhi and given to the Lieutenant Governor appointed by the Center. The Delhi government will not have the freedom to take its own decisions. BJP wants to rule Delhi from the backdoor, as people have not elected them in three consecutive elections.
According to NDTV, the cabinet has approved the bill giving more powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. There is also a provision to send legislative and administrative proposals to the elected government of Delhi to LG in due time by making some amendments in the Government of NCT Delhi Act. The bill is listed for passage in this session. It also mentions those subjects which fall outside the purview of the Legislative Assembly. According to government sources, these amendments are being done to improve governance and reduce conflict between LG and Delhi government.
According to the Times of India, according to the amendment passed in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the legislative proposals will now have to be delivered to the Lieutenant Governor at least 15 days in advance and administrative proposals seven days in advance. Explain that being the Union Territory, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has got many rights. However, Kejriwal government has expressed its opposition on this right many times. It is believed that after the Center has made LG more powerful, the tension of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may increase further.
