Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. This is the third international airport of Uttar Pradesh, built in an area of 589 acres at a cost of about Rs 260 crore. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and many other Union ministers and BJP leaders were present at the function.
During this, Prime Minister Modi said that India is the center of reverence, faith and inspiration of Buddhist society around the world. Today, this facility of Kushinagar International Airport is in a way a wreath paid to his reverence. He said that in order to develop the places associated with Lord Buddha, for better connectivity, special attention is being given by India today on the creation of facilities for the devotees. The development of Kushinagar is one of the priorities of the Uttar Pradesh and Central Government.

PM Modi said that under the UDAN scheme, more than 900 new routes have been approved in the last few years, out of which air service has started on more than 350. More than 50 new airports or those previously not in service have been made operational.
He said that the country’s aviation sector should run professionally, convenience and safety should be given priority, so that recently the country has taken a big step related to Air India. This step will give new energy to the aviation sector of India. One such major reform is related to opening up of defense airspace for civil use.
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Uttar Pradesh during his visit. Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh early next year. Kushinagar is an international Buddhist pilgrimage site where Lord Gautam Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana.
The first flight from Colombo, Sri Lanka, landed there on the occasion of the inauguration of Kushinagar International Airport, bringing a Sri Lankan delegation of over 100 Buddhist monks and dignitaries to Kushinagar. In this, a 12-member holy relic team has brought the relics of Lord Buddha for exhibition.
The Prime Minister’s Office said that the delegation also includes the Anunayakas (Deputy Heads) of all the four Buddhist schools of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Asgiriya, Amarapura, Ramanya and Malavatta. Along with this, five ministers of the Sri Lankan government under the leadership of cabinet minister Namal Rajapaksa will also be part of it.
On this occasion, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in his welcome address that this international airport of Kushinagar will soon be directly connected to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. At the same time, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the ninth airport of Uttar Pradesh has been inaugurated today, this will increase the possibilities of tourism and employment opportunities will be available.
