Kunda Chunav Result 2022: Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, counted among the Bahubali leaders of Uttar Pradesh, has won for the 7th consecutive time from Kunda assembly seat of Pratapgarh district. He defeated SP candidate Gulshan Yadav by a margin of 30,315 votes. Gulshan Yadav may have lost this election, but he has not only given a tough fight to Raja Bhaiya but has also broken a unique record of 29 years against Raja Bhaiya in Kunda.
Gulshan Yadav becomes first candidate to save bail in 29 years
Gulshan Yadav has become the first candidate to save his bail against Raja Bhaiya in Kunda. Raja Bhaiya won the Kunda assembly seat for the first time in 1993. Since then he has been an MLA from this seat for the last 29 consecutive years. Raja Bhaiya had recently told in an interview, “It is the tradition of Kunda, whoever fights against him with Kunda, his public forfeited his bail. If you look at the history of the last 6 elections, you will know.” However, this time Gulshan Yadav has saved his deposit by getting 35.19 percent votes.
How many votes did Raja Bhaiya and Gulshan Yadav get?
Raja Bhaiya, who is contesting the election by forming his own party under the name Jansatta Dal Loktantrik, got 99,612 votes or 50.58 percent of the total votes. In comparison, SP candidate Gulshan Yadav stood second by getting 69,297 votes. BJP candidate Sindhuja Mishra Senani stood third with 16,347 votes and BSP candidate secured 3,3321 votes.
Raja Bhaiya has been in Kunda since 1993
Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya has been ruling the Kunda assembly seat since 1,993. Their clout can be gauged from the fact that in many early elections, the parties did not get their candidates there and they used to send leaders from Kaushambi or other places as candidates. In 2007, Mayawati was sent to jail by imposing Anti-Terrorism Act against Raja Bhaiya. However, he was later acquitted of all charges and remains the “King” of Kunda to this day. Raja Bhaiya is the successor of the Bhadri royal family of Pratapgarh and his father Uday Pratap Singh is called the ‘Raja’ of Bhadri State in the area.

Who is Gulshan Yadav?
Gulshan Yadav was once considered close to Raja Bhaiya. According to local media reports, Gulshan Yadav first became the village head and then the president of Kunda Nagar Panchayat with the support of Raja Bhaiya. When Raja Bhaiya was a minister in the SP government, Gulshan Yadav had also joined the SP with him. However, Gulshan Yadav remained in the SP even after Raja Bhaiya broke the alliance with the SP. Now in this assembly election, SP made him a candidate. It was also interesting that the SP had fielded a candidate against Raja Bhaiya in Kunda after almost 20 years. During the election campaign, there was a lot of tension between Raja Bhaiya and Akhilesh Yadav regarding this.
When is the bail forfeited?
According to the Election Commission, when a candidate fails to secure 1/6th of the total votes polled in the seat i.e. 16.66%, his deposit is forfeited. In case of forfeiture of security, the security deposit of the candidate is kept by the Election Commission, which is called forfeiture of bail. In the assembly elections, the security deposit amount for the general category candidate is 10 thousand rupees, while the candidates of SC and ST category have to deposit 5 thousand rupees.
