Ranchi: In the financial year 2021-22, in a total of 136 residential schools under the department, students of classes 1 to 12 continue to study at home due to the closure of residential schools in the order of COVID-19. Regarding the scheme related to providing mobile tabs, Minister Champai Soren said that not only will the education of about 21,000 students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes of the state continue, but they will also be provided with quality learning materials. He said that the department has also ensured the arrangement of recharge and SIM with tabs so that studies are not interrupted due to lack of recharge. Also all the important and necessary learning material will be pre-loaded in the tab.

Highlights of this plan
- In view of the situations arising due to COVID-19, students of classes 1 to 12 in residential schools will be provided mobile tab (with pre-loaded e-content) and 12 months old school students under this scheme for alternative arrangement of reading and learning. Sim card (minimum 2GB per day) will be provided along with data recharge.
- Out of the 143 residential schools currently operating under the department, except 7 Eklavya Model Residential Schools, students from class 1 to 12 of the remaining 136 residential schools will be covered by this scheme. In 7 Eklavya Model Residential Schools, mobile tabs will be made available to the students from the Government of India level.
- Under this scheme, an estimated expenditure of about Rs.26 crore 25 lakh is expected on purchase of about 21000 mobile tabs (with pre-loaded e-content), SIM cards and 12 months data recharge.
- The amount for SIM card (minimum 2GB per day) with 12 months data recharge will be made available to the concerned District Welfare Officer. Based on the availability of network at the local level, the SIM card (with 12 months data recharge) has to be made available to the students by the concerned District Welfare Officer.
- The mobile tab (with pre-loaded e-content) will be procured from the level of Commissioner Office of GeM as per the prescribed procedure.
