IPL 2022: The last mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held on Saturday, in which players like Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur will be eyeing all the franchises, this year more than ten cricketers can be sold for more than 10 crores . With the addition of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Supergiants, 590 cricketers, including 227 overseas players, will be bidding for the ten-team league in the two-day auction.
This year more than ten cricketers can be bidding for more than 10 crores and some can even go for around 20 crores. Iyer could prove to be the costliest while Shardul and Ishaan Kishan are also expected to get good bids. If there is competition among the franchisees for these, then the prices can go up a lot. Apart from these, Deepak Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal are also expected to get more than 10 crores.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings), Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians) have been retained by their teams. The eyes of the teams will be on the middle order batsmen, spinners and all-rounders.
KL Rahul (17 crores) has been the most expensive player in retention. Iyer, the former Delhi Capitals captain, can woo teams like Punjab Kings (Rs 72 crores), Sunrisers Hyderabad (68 crores purse) and Rajasthan Royals (62 crores purse).
These teams need a ‘game changer’ player
Dhoni’s Chennai team will rely on tried-and-tested players, while teams like Punjab and Rajasthan will habitually insist on selecting from the remaining players. Kolkata Knight Riders have former Mumbai Ranji stalwart Abhishek Nayar, who is CEO Venky Mysore’s most trusted ally and runs the auction. His eyes will also be on Iyer.
The team, however, made a mistake by retaining a player who has been battling fitness issues like Varun Chakraborty as he is now left with a purse of Rs 48 crore. Since this is a mega auction and teams need at least 18 players, Indian players (capped or uncapped) will be picked up by the teams.
This is the reason why Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap last year, has a base price of Rs 2 crore and he can get five times more than that. Avesh Khan, who finished second among the highest wicket-takers, has a base price of Rs 20 lakh, but it can increase by 50 times.

Average T20 performers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane can also get good prices, while players like Ambati Rayudu can sell for Rs 7-8 crore.
In-form Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav are also expected to be sold. On the other hand, Deepak Hooda can now woo teams after performing well in the first two matches in international cricket.
David Warner is in form among overseas players and the Australian opener is expected to fetch a good price. Apart from being an opener, he is also a contender for the captaincy, who led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title in 2016.
Lucknow Supergiants can bet on him. Apart from Warner, Jason Holder of West Indies is also expected to be in good demand, as he is an expert in hitting big sixes and is also a useful medium pacer.
His teammates Dwayne Bravo, Odeon Smith and Romario Shepherd can also sell for a good price. Teams can also compete for fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock.
One of the domestic cricketers will be Shah Rukh Khan, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi. They can get good prices from stalwarts like Steve Smith, Jonny Bairstow or Eoin Morgan.
U19 cricketers all-rounder Raj Angad Bawa can woo the teams. India’s U19 team may have won the World Cup under Yash Dhul’s captaincy, but teams know that sometimes junior talent fails at the IPL level. Examples are Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Manjot Kalra and Shivam Mavi.
