Investigators have narrowed down the origin of the catastrophic fireplace that destroyed 5 seaside Scituate houses Friday, a state fireplace spokesperson stated Sunday, although the trigger continues to be unknown.
“Preliminary evidence suggests that the fire started in the area of 72 Glades St. and spread from there,” stated Department of Fire Services spokesperson Jake Ward. “Investigators returned to the scene (Saturday) with heavy machinery to assist in examining the scene.”
Investigators from the Scituate Fire Department, Scituate Police and State Fire Marshal’s workplace jumped in to research the catastrophic fireplace early Saturday after the blaze consumed 5 seaside houses alongside Minot Beach and broken three extra by Friday evening.
Firefighters initially responded to the blaze alongside Glades Road in Scituate after 8 p.m. Friday, the Scituate Fire Department reported beforehand, and the two-alarm fireplace shortly elevated to a five-alarm.
Sixty firefighters from Scituate, Duxbury, Kingston, Hanover, Norwell, Hull, Rockland, Plymouth and Hanson joined the battle, the division stated, getting the flames below management by dawn Saturday and clearing the scene by that afternoon.
The residences had been largely summer time rental properties and short-term AirBnBs, officers stated, and the handful of residents current escaped unscathed — an prevalence Deputy Fire Chief Mark Donovan known as “miraculous.”
The Red Cross is helping displaced residents, officers stated.
Donovan advised the Herald Saturday that wide-spread fires alongside the shoreline like this aren’t too unusual as a consequence of how shut the properties are constructed collectively.
Local and state officers are actively persevering with to research the origin and reason behind the hearth, Ward stated.
