New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that during the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, India’s stand has been firm and clear and has made every effort to stop violence immediately and take every step. Called for an end to all kinds of enmity. He said that in view of the developments in Ukraine, India has been emphasizing that the global order is based on international law, the United Nations Charter and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of nations. Jaishankar said this in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
“India’s stand has been firm and clear and has called for an immediate cessation of violence and an end to all forms of hostility, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating situation,” he said.
Jaishankar’s remarks came in the backdrop of growing discontent in the West over India’s move in the West, including its non-criticism against Russia for attacking Ukraine, neutrality during the UN Security Council vote.
He said, “In our interactions with global leaders at the highest level, we have emphasized with all UN member states that the global order is based on international law, the United Nations Charter, and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of nations. “
“This argument is reflected from our side on the situation in Ukraine in various international forums and bodies,” the foreign minister said. He said that in the Security Council and the General Assembly, India has urged for an immediate ceasefire and providing safe passage to the stranded civilians.
“We have also highlighted at the United Nations the honorable assistance given to Ukraine and its neighbors in this hour of crisis,” he said. Jaishankar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Russia, Ukraine and its neighbors as well as other prominent world leaders since the crisis unfolded.

Jaishankar said that the Prime Minister conveyed India’s well-thought-out view to all concerned that there is no alternative but the path of diplomacy and dialogue. The External Affairs Minister said that Prime Minister Modi spoke twice to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 26 and March 7.
In these talks, the Prime Minister expressed his deep concern about the crisis on humanity as a result of the ongoing conflict. The Prime Minister reiterated his call for an immediate end to the violence and said that India has always been a supporter of peaceful resolution of issues and direct dialogue between the two sides.
He said that the Prime Minister also thanked the Ukrainian authorities for facilitating and helping to evacuate over 22,000 Indian nationals from Ukraine. Jaishankar said that apart from this, the Prime Minister spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February, 2 March and 7 March, during which Putin briefed the Prime Minister about the status of talks between Ukraine and the Russian parties.
“The Prime Minister welcomed the ongoing talks between Russia and China and expressed hope that this would bring an end to the conflict. He suggested that direct talks between President Putin and President Zelensky could be of great help to the ongoing peace efforts.” (agency)
