According to the RBI report, fake notes worth more than Rs 5.45 crore have been caught in the fiscal year 2020-21. A total of 2,08,625 counterfeit notes have been caught, out of which 8107 notes i.e. about 4 percent of fake notes have been caught by RBI, while other banks have caught 2,00,518 notes i.e. about 96 percent fake notes.
31.3% increase in fake Rs 500 notes
There has been an increase of 31.3 per cent in counterfeit notes of Rs 500 seized as compared to last year. In the financial year 2019-20, 30,054 notes of Rs 500 were seized, while in the fiscal year 2020-21, 39,453 notes were seized. However, there has been a decline in the amount of other types of counterfeit currency. The seized counterfeit notes include notes ranging from Rs 2, 5 and Rs 10 to Rs 2000.
How to identify Rs 500 notes

2- If the note is kept at an angle of 45 degrees in front of the eye, then 500 will be written here.

4- When compared to the old note, the orientation and position of Mahatma Gandhi’s picture is slightly different.
5 – If you bend the note lightly, the color of the security thread changes from green to blue.
6 – The Governor’s signature, guarantee clause, promise clause and RBI logo have shifted to the right side as compared to the old note.

8 – The numbers entered in the top left and bottom right side get bigger from left to right.
