Bharat Bandh: Farmers’ organizations, which are continuously opposing three new agricultural laws, have called for a Bharat Bandh on Tuesday 8 December. On 5 December too, the talks of the farmer leaders with the government were getting fruitless and now the next conversation will be on 9 December. But before this, farmers’ organizations have given a call for Bharat Bandh. But traders and transporters have said not to join this bandh.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) and the All India Transport Welfare Association (Etwa), a veteran organization in the transport sector, have said that the country’s trade and transport is not included in the India bandh on December 8. On Tuesday, markets across Delhi, including Delhi, will be fully open and business activities will continue as usual. The transport sector will also continue to function as expected and the movement of goods will also be fully operational. Taxi and auto service will also be operational on 8 December.
It has been said on behalf of CAT and Etwa that it has been learned that the support of the bandh is being propagated in various states through social media and messages in the name of both CAT and Etwa, which is completely misleading. And mischief is complete work. We sympathize with our peasant brothers and wish that the dispute that is currently going on should be ended at the earliest. But at the same time, in the current crisis of the COVID epidemic, as soon as some trade has come on the line, there is no opportunity to organize any bandh. The organizations advised the peasant leaders that some anti-social elements may disturb the sanctity of their movement due to their vested interests and create a gap between the farmer and the government. Not only the farmers but also the government will have to take care of this.
Farmer organizations did not contact
National President of CAT CAT Bhartia, National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal and Etwa National Chairman Pradeep Singhal, President Mahendra Arya said in a joint statement issued in Delhi on Monday that leaders of any farmer organization or farmer movement have called CAT Or have not contacted Etwa for their agitation or for the Bharat Bandh nor has it sought any support. Keeping this in mind, traders and transporters from Delhi and across the country are not involved in the Bharat Bandh tomorrow.
Officials of both CAT and Etwa said that at a time when the negotiations of farmer leaders are going on with the government, there is no justification for any bandh. The businessmen and transporters of the country sympathize with the farmers because they, like traders and transporters, are a very important and integral part of the country’s economy. But we are confident that the talks between the government and farmer leaders will yield results.
Stopping supply during the Corona period is meaningless
Etwa national chairman Pradeep Singhal has requested the government to resolve the farmers’ issues as soon as possible. The transporters have full sympathy with the farmers. But there is no justification for stopping the supply of goods in the current Corona era. Therefore, the support of the transporters is with the farmers, but they are not involved in the bandh. He said that till now no farmer organization has demanded from us that transport should be stopped or supply of things should be stopped.
The time has come to provide farmers with profitable farming
Leaders of both organizations said that the farmer is cultivating losses in the country. So now the time has come, when we should not only provide all the options to the farmers to provide profitable farming, but they should also be implemented in a time-bound manner. It is necessary for the farmers of the country to believe that they will get their proper profits and to create this environment, so that the farmers can cultivate their fields independently and grow good crops. In this sequence, the traders of the country will fully support the farmers and if there is any deficiency on the part of the traders, they will overcome them. At the same time, the transport sector will leave no stone unturned in providing better transport arrangements to the farmers.
Kat will soon demand amendment
Bhartia and Khandelwal said that the middlemen doing business in the mandi in the farm bills have been called as middlemen, which will be abolished. The CAT objected to this because the agents are the intermediaries who not only help the farmers by selling the goods in the market at the right prices, but also provide advance funds or financial assistance to the farmers when needed. The government will have to think about how they will be able to do business according to the new laws. CAT is studying the three farm bills in-depth and soon a detailed memorandum will be given to the government seeking amendment.
