Due to low population, Bhutan has got success in quick vaccination but the credit also goes to dedicated civilian volunteers and established cold chain stores. Bhutan received 150,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from India in January. It came to Bhutan, its first dose of vaccine. However, they were distributed at the end of March, keeping in view the auspicious dates of Buddhist astrology.
India had sent the vaccine
Bhutan received its first consignment of 1.5 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine as a gift from India in January. Bhutan was the first country to be gifted with COVID vaccines by the Indian government. This vaccine is produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII). In March, Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for making the COVID-19 vaccination program nationwide possible in the Himalayan country and for giving India an additional four lakh doses of Kovishield vaccine.
