Students Fined For Listening Music in Pakistan: In a university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, students have been fined only because they were listening to the song. This fine has been imposed by the Gomal University of Dera Ismail Khan city here. Two students studying in the University’s Department of Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) will now have to pay five thousand rupees. These students were listening to the song when the class was going on in the university.
Ziauddin, chairman of the ICIT department, said that the two students played songs on a Bluetooth speaker in the university’s teaching area (Students Fined For Listening Music). He said that by doing this, ‘everyone has had to face problems in the studies going on in the department at that time. Both students were warned about music many times but still they did not listen to anyone. After which he was fined. The chairman said that Bluetooth speakers have been confiscated.
Chancellor told what is banned
One of the two students is doing masters and the other is a graduate student. The Vice-Chancellor of Gomal University, Professor Iftikhar Ahmed has confirmed the case and said, ‘The music that bothers people while studying is banned in the university.’ He said that the university administration has no problem as long as one is listening to a song without disturbing anyone (Students Fined For Listening Music). Regarding the fine, Ahmed said that the administration has only prohibited smoking, drugs and political activities. However, the university is getting a lot of criticism on Twitter.
There is a lot of discussion on Twitter
This notification of imposing a penalty on students is going viral on Twitter. People are very angry about this. A user has written that after looking at all educational institutions in Pakistan, it seems that he is persecuting the students (Controversial Decisions of Pakistan’s University for Students). Another user has made fun of the wrong spelling in the notification. This is the second time this month when a university in Pakistan has faced public anger on social media due to its disputed decision. Last week, a video of a girl proposing to her boyfriend went viral, after which both the students were expelled from the college.
