Pune. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP and actor Dr Amol Kolhe, who is facing criticism for playing the role of Nathuram Godse in a film, has said that he would never support the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin and if played by him. The role played presents only one side and he apologizes if he hurts the sentiments of Gandhiji’s followers.
Kolhe played the role of Godse in the Hindi film “Why I Killed Gandhi”. He had visited Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Alandi near Pune on Saturday to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation on the eve of his death anniversary. Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Kolhe said, “The film was shot in 2017. If the role (played by him) has only favored Godse and has hurt the sentiments of Gandhiji’s followers, then I truly apologize to those who have been hurt.” “I have never supported Godse’s ideology and will not support it in future also,” he said.
Kolhe said that if the film has presented only one side, he will soon present the other side as well to prevent the wrong message to the public. Nathuram does not endorse Godse’s character. I have played Nathuram in the film, but I will never support his ideology. Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts will never be erased by such a small thing.”

Kolhe said, “An attempt is being made to create a bad atmosphere. That’s why I have come to the place where Gandhiji’s ashes were immersed in the river and want to say his words ‘God give everyone’s consent’. Later, on Twitter, Kolhe said that he is very happy to see the faith and devotion towards Mahatma Gandhi among the youth of today.
He said, “This proves that the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi are immortal. His message of truth, non-violence and forgiveness to the world is invaluable to mankind. I am also a fan of those ideas.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole said in Mumbai on Sunday that it is for Kolhe to decide what role he wants to play as an actor, but when the script of a Godse-related film came to him, he had to understand it. What was the role.
After paying tribute to the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary, Patole said, “We will never tolerate that Mahatma is shown as a villain and attempts are made to show Nathuram Godse as a hero. We have written to (Maharashtra’s) Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) and Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) that this film should not be shown.” (agency)
