Metro Rail Projects: The metro rail network is becoming a major means of urban transportation. This is the reason that metro network work is going on in most major cities of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project through video conferencing. On this occasion, the Prime Minister himself told that the work of more than 1,000 kilometres of the metro rail network is going on in 27 cities of India.
PM Modi said that there was a time when there was no modern thinking and policy on the metro in our country. This is the reason that each city has different types of the metro. With the introduction of the metro network between Ahmedabad and Surat, connectivity between the two business cities of the country will be strengthened. This will make urban traffic accessible.
450 km more metro network operational in 6 years
The PM said that only 225 km metro line was operational in 10-12 years before 2014. At the same time, more than 450 km of metro network has been started in the last 6 years. After Ahmedabad, Surat is the second major city of Gujarat to be connected to a modern public transport system like Metro. The metro network in Surat will in a way connect the important merchant center of the entire city.
PM says that today we are developing the transportation of cities as an integrated system. That is, bus, metro, rail should not all run according to their own way, but work as a collective arrangement, complement each other. Today, Surat is the eighth largest city in the country in terms of population but is also the fourth most developed city in the world. 9 out of every 10 diamonds in the world are carved in Surat.
