There has been a jump of 113% in home sales during the July-September quarter. 62,800 units were sold during the July-September quarter across the top seven cities of the country. In the same quarter last year, only 29,520 units were sold in these cities. This is revealed by the report of property consultant Anarock.
The report said that Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has the highest 33% of the total sales of 62,800 units followed by Delhi-NCR with 16%. Apart from this, new project launches also increased by 98% to 64,560 units in the September quarter as against 32,530 units in the same quarter last year.

The highest number of 16,510 units were launched in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). It was followed by Hyderabad, where 14,690 units were launched. The maximum number of new projects launched in the mid segment (houses/flats in the range of 40 lakh to 80 lakhs) and premium home (houses/flats in the 80 lakhs to 1.5 crores price range) categories accounted for 41 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the affordable housing segment (units costing less than 40 lakhs) accounted for 24% of new project launches in the quarter.
What was the reason behind the boom in home sales?
Anuj Puri, Chairman, Anarock Group, said, “Demand for homes increased due to home loan rates at record low levels, apart from job security and a pick-up in hiring in the IT and financial sectors during the July-September quarter. The growing culture of WFH has also worked to increase the overall housing demand. Site visits have also picked up due to the slowing down of Corona.”
