Mumbai: In Mumbai, 36 new local trains have started on the Central Railway line from today i.e. Saturday. PM Narendra Modi made an announcement regarding this on Friday evening. PM Modi on Friday dedicated the Thane-Diva 5th and 6th lines to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and flagged off the inauguration of 36 additional suburban services on the Central Railway main line through video conferencing.
According to reports, railway officials said the new additional lines, which will be mostly air-conditioned, will increase the daily capacity of local trains in this section to one lakh. The 12-car AC local train has a total carrying capacity of over 3,000 passengers, including a seating capacity of 1,028. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also attended the event through weblink.

Congratulating the Mumbaikars, PM Modi said that the 5th and 6th rows will always make life easier for the residents of the dynamic metropolis. Under the four direct benefits, he said there would be separate lines for local and express trains. Secondly, trains coming from other states will not have to wait for the passing of local trains. Thirdly, Mail/Express trains in Kalyan Kurla section can run without any interruption and lastly, Kalwa-Mumbra passengers will not face any problem due to interruption every Sunday.
He said that these lines and 36 new local services on Central Railway, mostly AC, are part of the Centre’s commitment to expand and modernize the facility of local trains.
