Former Gujarat Chief Minister and PM Modi’s Guru Keshubhai Patel has passed away. He was 92 years old. He was admitted to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing. He was also corona positive some time ago. He retired from politics in 2014 and was recently made the president of Somnath Temple Trust.

PM Modi has mourned the demise of the former Chief Minister. He has written in the tweet that Keshubhai has guided him and activists like him, PM Modi has described his death as irreparable loss and wrote that he has spoken to Keshubhai’s son Bharat and comforted him.

Keshubhai Patel became the Chief Minister of Gujarat twice but was never able to complete his term. Apart from this, when Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister in Gujarat, before that Keshubhai Patel was the Chief Minister of the state. Modi considered Keshubhai Patel as his guru.

Keshubhai Patel was one of the founding members of the Jana Sangh. He started his political career around 1960. He became a Lok Sabha MP from Rajkot in the 1977 elections after the Emergency. However, he later resigned and held the post of Agriculture Minister in Babubhai Patel’s government in Gujarat between 1978 and 1980. He first became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1995, but had to resign seven months later due to the rebellion of Shankarsinh Vaghela. He then became the Chief Minister in 1998. He later resigned in 2001 due to declining health. After him, Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of the state.
