Melbourne, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday that the current situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is due to China defying written agreements not to mobilize troops along the border. The reason is born. In a joint press conference with Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne, Jaishankar said it is a matter of concern for the entire international community when a major country defies written commitments.
He made this statement in response to a question on the standoff between the armies of India and China on the eastern Ladakh border. Asked whether the issue of the standoff on the India-China border was discussed at the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting here on Friday, Jaishankar replied in the affirmative. “Yes, we (Quad) discussed India-China relations because it is part of the way we keep each other informed of developments in our neighbourhood. This is an issue in which many countries are interested. Especially countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
Jaishankar said that the current situation along the LAC arose due to China’s disregard for the written agreements made with India in 2020 not to mobilize troops along the border. “When a major country violates written agreements, I think it becomes a matter of legitimate concern to the entire international community,” he said. Significantly, after violent clashes in Pangong Lake, a standoff broke out between the armies of India and China on the eastern Ladakh border and both sides have gradually increased their deployment by sending thousands of soldiers to the border. Tension had arisen between the two countries after violent clashes in the Galwan Valley.
