- 750 employees of the university
- Consists of 1,500 staff colleges
Nagpur. In the non-agricultural universities and aided colleges of the state, the work has come to a standstill due to the strike of non-teaching staff and officers. Even after repeated discussions and agitations, it is the result of the government not paying attention that this time an indefinite strike has been started. The decision to continue the strike till the demands are not accepted has added to the difficulties. There is silence in the departments due to the agitation before the winter session examinations.
About 750 employees of the university and about 1,500 employees of aided colleges have participated in the strike. The employees working on the contractual method have not participated in the strike. At the same time, retired employees have also shown their support. About 90 percent of the work of RTM Nagpur University has come to a standstill. The system is being run on the basis of only 10 percent contract employees. Chandrashekhar Shelke, president of Vivi Bahujan Employees Organization, said that the agitation would continue till the demands were met. No matter how much time it takes for this. The employees have started a strike over other demands including Pay Commission and Assured Progress Scheme. It has also been supported by the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar.
impact on exams
The winter session examinations of the university are about to begin. In this condition, other work including preparing the admit card is getting affected. If the strike continues for more days, the university may have to change the schedule of examinations. Due to non-availability of staff in the departments, other work including various certificates of the students is also not being done. The students coming to the examination hall are returning bereft. The situation is the same in colleges as well. The library has been locked due to no one to give books. At the same time all kinds of correspondence have also stopped.
After giving a strike warning, a meeting was held with Minister Uday Sawant on 15 December. After this, a meeting was also taken on 16, but left this meeting in the middle and left. This was the reason that the employees had to go on strike after getting frustrated with the attitude of the government. Now till the written assurance is not received by the government, the agitation will continue.
-Ajay Deshmukh, President, Mara University Non-Teaching Staff Federation
The employees of all the departments of the government are getting the benefits of Pay Commission and Assured Progress Scheme. Only the employees of the aided colleges have been deprived of this benefit. This is the reason why there is an atmosphere of dissatisfaction among the college employees also. The attention of the government is needed at the earliest.
