New Delhi. Cases of Omicron Variant are coming to the fore in India. This virus is at least three times more contagious than the delta variant. So far 216 cases of Omicron have been reported in the country. But none of these showed any serious symptoms. According to two doctors treating Omicron patients, Omicron is less dangerous than the delta variant of the coronavirus and some patients do not even have a fever.
Dr. Manoj Sharma, Senior Internal Medicine at Fortis Hospital, Delhi, said during a conversation with news agency ANI that, in general, the Omicron variant is less dangerous than the delta variant in terms of severity. Some patients got cold but they did not get fever. However, this is a common symptom in the early stages.
He said, “Data from all over the world shows that Omicron is not very fatal in case of serious diseases. But when this virus starts infecting healthy adult population then they can infect older individuals and only then we will know the severity of the disease.
“Omicron could be a problem for the elderly population or people with pre-existing medical conditions,” he said. However, it is too early to say whether Omicron patients will need oxygen or they could become seriously ill.
