Pune : A 17-year-old youth working in a sewage treatment plant in a residential society in Mahalunge area of Pune was found dead in a drainage tank on Sunday. A case has been registered against the contractor of the facility on the allegation of death due to negligence of the police.
Pimpri-Chinchwad police have identified the deceased as Pawan Praveen Jamdade, a resident of Mahalunge, who was hired by the residential society in the area to clean sewage water and use it for horticulture. In this case, his mother Radhika has lodged an FIR at Hinjewadi police station. He had earlier filed a missing complaint after his disappearance.

According to the FIR, at around 12.30 pm on January 28, Praveen left home for work after having his lunch during the break. In the evening when his mother tried to call him several times, his phone was switched off. Later on the night of January 28, he lodged a missing complaint at Hinjewadi police station. On January 29, around 1.30 pm, Praveen’s body was found in the drainage water storage at the treatment plant. Later the Hinjewadi police started investigation.
Work was going on without safety equipment
Sub-Inspector Yashwant Salunke, who is probing the case, said that preliminary investigation revealed that Praveen fell into the water tank as there was no safety measure and no protective material was provided to him during his work. The official feared that the tank was filled with untreated drainage water and due to this Pawan might have died. The police have registered a case against the concerned construction contractor on the charge of death due to negligence.
