It has been more than a year since India started its biggest vaccination campaign (Covid-19 Vaccination) against the corona epidemic. So far more than 169.63 crore people have been vaccinated, out of which more than 14.70 lakh people were given the COVID shot yesterday. Meanwhile, the central government has clarified in the country’s top court, the Supreme Court, that Aadhaar card is not mandatory for registering on the CoWIN platform for COVID-19 vaccination.
Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Suryakant was told by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) that for vaccination, it is mandatory to have only one of the nine identity documents including passport, driving license, PAN card, voting card, ration card.
The apex court took note of this statement and disposed of the petition of Siddharthshankar Sharma. The petition claimed that Aadhaar card is being compulsorily insisted upon to register for the COVID-19 vaccination on the Kovin platform. The apex court had issued notice to the Center on October 1, 2021 regarding this petition.
