‘Corona Warriors is only a word in name’ these words are from Dr. Anuj Aggarwal, General Secretary, Resident Doctors Association of Safdarjung Hospital. Late Monday, between 11:30 and 12 o’clock, we met Dr. Anuj, who had recently returned from the Sarojini Nagar police station along with his fellow doctors who were protesting, outside the Doctors’ Hostel inside Safdarjung Hospital.
Obviously, the process of talks must have started from the very beginning of their protest. He told that we have been performing these demonstrations in different phases for the last one month, but due to human sentiments and assurances from the Health Minister, we withdrew it.
He further said that for the last 10 days, we are again protesting about our demands, in which we have also dismissed the emergency service and for seven days the demonstration is going on at Nirman Bhawan.
Why did the doctor get angry?
After 10 days of peaceful protest, what happened on Monday, which made the doctors so furious and how the matter escalated so much? Explaining this, Dr Anuj told MoneyControl Hindi that we had informed the police in the press release that we would march peacefully towards the Supreme Court.
In this episode, in front of Maulana Azad Medical College, which is Shaheed Park, the resident doctors of all the hospitals, whose number will be about 2000, were marching from it. We were going peacefully on the road when the police barricaded a bus, parked it in the middle of the road and blocked our way.
According to Dr. Anuj, all the doctors involved in the march requested the police that we can also go through the service lane and we should be allowed to go. Even after talking for a long time, when the road did not open, we sat there on the road without disturbing the law and order.
In this fight between the police and doctors, DGHS and Additional DG also reached there at around 2.30 in the afternoon, but according to Dr. Anuj, the resident doctors were not satisfied with their words and assurances in the number of thousands sitting on the road and they were not satisfied with our questions. Could not hear, left from there.
‘Our eyes could not believe seeing all this’
If Dr. Aggarwal is to be believed, ‘After both the officers left from there, suddenly the police came into action mode and started chasing all the protesting doctors and dragged them to sit in the bus. Anuj further said, “What we saw there at that time, we could not believe our eyes that the female doctors were being dragged by the male policemen by the leg.”
He further said, “Seeing all this, we shouted at them that there is no mother and sister in your house? By doing this, who will you get the women of your house treated? We saved them somehow. When we saved them all. When they started saving, some people started shooting this incident on the phone, then they snatched the phones of many of our people.” He alleged that even now the phones of many people are with the police.
NEET-PG Counseling: After the clash between doctors and police, the medical body called for a nationwide bandh on December 29
The doctor also accused the police of abusing her. According to him, the president of FORDA, Dr. Manish also suffered a lot of injury. He also claimed that many doctors got hurt during this entire incident. However, he did not have the exact figure of the injured.
Doctor Anuj while talking about breaking his glasses said that I still do not believe that something like this has really happened or could happen. After this, after taking everyone to Rajendra Nagar police station, they were released from there and all those doctors returned to Safdarjung Hospital.
‘This is just a glimpse’
Dr. Anuj gave only a glimpse of the crowd and demonstration that had gathered in front of Safdarjung Hospital during the night. He alleged that the police suppressed the entire serious matter of the day. He said that we are getting support from all over the country. After the scuffle with the police, they are getting phone calls and messages from everywhere. Now resident doctors from all over the country will join this movement.
At the same time, about the incident of Sarojini Nagar police station, he told that when a large crowd of doctors gathered outside the emergency ward of the hospital and the demonstration intensified, the police took everyone into custody and reached the police station. Let us tell you that standing outside this police station, these doctors also sang the national anthem in the night, many videos of which have also gone viral on social media.
What is the demand of resident doctors?
The doctors even submitted lab coats in protest. Not only this, many doctors even burnt lab coats. After this whole story, the question remains that what are these doctors protesting about.
You might be surprised to hear that all these resident doctors are protesting for the students who are forced to sit at home after appearing for the NEET PG 2021 exam and are waiting for their counselling.
After MBBS degree, NEET PG exam is given by doctors for any specialization, after which they have to do three years of training in government hospitals, during this training period these people are called resident doctors.
The demand of these resident doctors is that the counseling of NEET PG 2021 should be completed at the earliest, so that the number of resident doctors in hospitals can increase and the workload on the existing resident doctors can be reduced and they can focus on their training. . Apart from this, resident doctor Anuj Agarwal has also demanded a public apology from the police for Monday’s incident.
