Presenting the figures, Congress spokesperson Gurdeep Sappal said, FDI increased by 65% in 8 years of Modi government, but in 10 years of Manmohan Singh this increase was 11.3 times.
BJP vs Congress on FDI : There was a fierce dispute between the Modi government and the Congress today over the figures of increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country. Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that during the tenure of Modi government, the growth of FDI in the country has been 65 percent more than during the tenure of UPA. Countering his statement, Congress reminded that during the tenure of Dr. Manmohan Singh, an increase of 11.3 times i.e. 1130 percent was registered in FDI in the country.
Finance Minister’s statement came first in Parliament
The tussle between the government and the Congress over foreign investment started with a statement by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on Tuesday. Responding to the discussion on the Finance Bill 2022 and the Appropriation Bill 2022, the Finance Minister said that during the tenure of the Modi government, foreign direct investment (FDI) of $ 500.5 billion has come to the country, which was done by the UPA government. 65 percent more than the ten-year tenure of the Sitharaman also claimed that this happened because foreign investors rely on the current government’s economic management. Referring to a report of UNCTAD, he also said that India remains in the top 5 countries of the world in terms of FDI.
Congress gave the answer from the figures
Congress National Spokesperson Gurdeep Singh Sappal gave some interesting figures while replying to the Finance Minister’s claim. He said, “Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s claim is true that there has been a 65% increase in FDI in about 8 years of the Modi government. But she probably forgot to mention that in the ten years of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government, this increase was 11.3 times i.e. 1130%.
Congress counted the figures from 1998 to 2014
In support of his claim, the Congress spokesperson presented the details of foreign direct investment in the country every year from 1998 to 2014 and said that his claim can be confirmed by these figures. Gurdeep Sappal, comparing the performance of Manmohan Singh’s government with that of Vajpayee government, said, “If we compare the six years of Vajpayee government and the first six years of Dr. Manmohan Singh government, even then the growth of FDI during UPA is 610%. Was. And the Finance Minister is happy only at 65%!” Congress spokesperson has presented the figures from 1998 to 2014, because during this time there was NDA government under the leadership of BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the country.
