MumbaiBrihanmumbai Municipal (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal urged citizens to celebrate the upcoming Christmas festival amid fears of the spread of the Omicron form of the corona virus. And has appealed to avoid gatherings and parties during the New Year, and has warned of strict action against those who violate the rules.
According to official figures, so far 54 cases of Omicron form have been reported in Maharashtra. Of these, 22 cases have come to the fore in Mumbai, some of which were detected during the investigation at the international airport here. In a press release issued on Sunday, Chahal said that due to the new virus form Omicron, the situation in many countries of the world has once again gone out of control and led to lockdown-like situations. He said that despite repeated appeals by the government and administration to prevent a possible third wave of COVID-19, the guidelines are not being followed properly in most of the places – especially in wedding ceremonies and other functions. And there is a need to stop the increasing crowd in such events.

Chahal asked the citizens to strictly follow the rules regarding attendance at weddings and other functions. The municipal commissioner said, “Avoid any kind of overcrowding, wear a mask and follow the COVID-19 guidelines. All citizens should also be fully vaccinated.” At the same time, he said that people should follow all the rules in hotels, restaurants, malls and other places as well.
He said the BMC body has deployed squads at the ward level to take action against those violating the rules. Chahal said, “Violators of COVID-19 rules will be dealt with strictly by the ward level teams of BMC as well as the Mumbai Police administration.”
