Coal Import in October: India’s coal imports declined in October 2021. This is a decline of 26.8 percent compared to a year ago. With this decline, India’s coal imports came down to 157.5 million tonnes. Mjunction Services, a company that publishes research reports about coal and steel, has given this information on the basis of data. The company has said that coal and coke imported at major and other ports of the country registered a decline of 26.8 percent in October.

According to the report, coal imports in the country stood at 157.5 million tonnes in October 2021, while it was 2150 million tonnes in October 2020. However, coal imports were six percent higher in October as compared to September 2021. In September, coal imports were 145.8 million tonnes. If we look at the classification of coal imported in October, then non-coking coal was 94.57 lakh tonnes while the quantity of coking coal was 40.5 lakh tonnes. Total coal imports in the first seven months (April-October) of the current financial year stood at 123.99 million tonnes, an increase of 5.4 per cent over 1168.1 million tonnes in the same period a year ago.

This is the reason for the decline
Commenting on the coal import trend, Vinay Verma, MD & CEO, mjunction said, “There was a strong demand for coal from the power sector during the festive season, but imports have come down due to rise in prices of sea-route coal. . Import demand is likely to remain subdued in the coming months due to improvement in domestic supply.
