Which city has the most CCTV cameras per square mile in the world? If your answer is New York or London then you are wrong. Delhi has the highest number of CCTV cameras per square mile in the world. Claiming this today, on 27th August, the Delhi government described it as a high secure place. Delhi has 1826 cameras per square mile while London has 1138 cameras. Giving information about this, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed happiness by tweeting. Delhi has overtaken Shanghai, New York and London in terms of CCTV cameras installed per square mile.
Chief Minister Kejriwal has praised the officers and engineers of the Delhi government for reaching this height in a short time.
However, now criticisms have also started on this achievement. Digital rights advocacy group Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) has criticized the installation of so many CCTV (closed circuit television) cameras over privacy concerns. 2.75 lakh CCTV cameras are installed in 67 constituencies of 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Apart from this, locations are to be identified for installation of 1.38 lakh additional CCTVs and survey is being done for this.

Criticism started over privacy concerns
The Internet Freedom Foundation, a group advocating for digital rights, has criticized the Delhi government for this achievement. Earlier in 2019, IFF had sent a notice to Kejriwal. This notice was sent due to there being no legal framework regarding the footage being recorded through the camera. IFF had demanded to stop the installation of CCTV cameras.
IFF has Tweet It has been said that CCTV should not be installed without any legal basis or security standards. According to IFF, unlawful SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) footage from CCTV is shared with RW (Resident Welfare Association) and market associations which is promoting private and warrantless surveillance in Delhi. However, the government says that all the feeds of CCTV are very secure and only authorized users have access to them. Apart from this, the Delhi government claims that the system itself is capable of identifying any dent in it.
