An “interfaith celebration” Monday will wrap up a weekend of “Faith and Blue” occasions — a nationwide initiative trying to construct connections between law enforcement officials to faith-based neighborhood organizations.
“The national overall goal is the same goal we’re trying for here in Boston — to bridge gaps with the community in partnership with faith organizations throughout the city,” mentioned Boston Police spokesperson Andre Watson.
The Faith and Blue initiative was created in 2020 by means of a partnership between MovementForward, Inc. and the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
“Law enforcement and faith institutions are key pillars of each community, and when they work together, neighborhoods thrive,” a Faith and Blue mission assertion reads.
Faith and Blue weekend occasions kicked off Friday in 9 cities across the nation, together with Boston. Over 30 community-based occasions have been organized over the weekend.
Faith teams concerned all through the weekend included the Ismaili Muslim Center in Allston/Brighton, St. Monica Church in South Boston, Resurrection Lutheran Church meals pantry in Roxbury and Sacred Heart Church in East Boston.
A closing “Interfaith Celebration” occasion Monday will embrace leisure, refreshments and children actions on the Seaport’s Lawn on D, a Boston Police announcement mentioned.
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, Mayor Michelle Wu, U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Rachael Rollins and nationwide Faith and Blue organizer Rev. Markel Hutchins are scheduled to talk.
Monday’s occasion will happen from 4 to 7 p.m. on the garden at 420 D Street in South Boston.
