Twitter said on Friday that it will relaunch its account verification process from January 20. Through this, active and certified user accounts will get a blue verified tick. After the implementation of the new process, the verification mark on the microblogging platform will be removed from the inactive account. In November, Twitter announced that it will relaunch its account verification process from early 2021. And people were asked to share feedback on the draft of the new verification policy between 24 November and 8 December.
Verification was stopped three years ago
The company stopped its public verification program three years ago. This was done after receiving the complaint that a lot of people seemed to be arbitrary and confusing. Twitter had said in a blogpost that in two weeks during the period of public feedback, they have received more than 22 thousand survey responses and have understood a lot about how they can improve their policy.
They will start implementing the policy from 20 January 2021. With this, they will also start removing verification marks from inactive and incomplete accounts.

It further states that this new policy will lay the foundation for future reforms in which it will be explained what is the meaning of verification, who is eligible for verification and why some accounts may lose verification. The social media platform has changed its definition and will no longer require a profile bio or header image. With this, the title of News category has been expanded to News and Journalist and Sports category to Sports and Esports.
