“If a person says that he is not afraid of death, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha.” India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw had said this for the Gurkha battalion, which is certainly called the best fighter in the world. General Bipin Rawat, who became India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), also belonged to this Gorkha battalion. He died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday and this brave officer of India could not succeed in defeating the helicopter accident for the second time.
Second time because a similar incident happened in the year 2015 as well. Bipin Rawat was then in Cheetah helicopter instead of MI. The accident was also horrific. Cheetah was blown away, but this brave Gurkha escaped safely by dodging death. Sorry it didn’t happen this time.
Actually this incident is from about six years ago, when Bipin was in the rank of Lieutenant General in Rawat. In the year 2015, Bipin Rawat had a narrow escape in a helicopter crash.
According to reports, General Rawat was then in a Cheetah helicopter along with three Army personnel, which crashed on February 3, 2015, seconds after taking off from the Rabagapahar helipad in Nagaland’s Dimapur district.
The helicopter had just taken off when the engine shut down at about 20 feet above the ground and the helicopter crashed. The people on board were slightly injured.
CDS Bipin Rawat Death: CDS Bipin Rawat had left Delhi at 9 am with his wife, know what happened till the accident
The Army chopper, which had taken a routine flight, crashed around 9.30 am. Defense PRO Amit Mahajan in Shillong told PTI that the helicopter was damaged in the accident.
At the same time, on Wednesday, General Rawat was on his way to the Defense Staff College in Wellington from the Air Force Base at Sulur near Coimbatore. CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, defense assistants, security commandos and an Indian Air Force pilot got information about this helicopter crash.
But like 2015, this time perhaps the luck of General Bipin Rawat was not that good and a soldier of the country lost his life in such an accident.
An eyewitness to the incident said that he saw the helicopter hitting trees, after which it engulfed in flames. The Indian Air Force has ordered an inquiry to find out the cause of the accident.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was also supposed to address the Parliament today regarding this helicopter crash, but now it has been postponed till Thursday.
