Mumbai’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Saturday rejected Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s plea that her “extortion” complaint against lyricist Javed Akhtar be transferred from a magistrate’s court in suburban Andheri. Ranaut had lodged a counter-complaint against Javed Akhtar, who is fighting a criminal defamation case against Kangana.
In his complaint before the magistrate’s court, Ranaut had accused Akhtar of “extortion and criminal intimidation”. The actress had approached the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate through her lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui to get the case transferred and said she did not trust the magistrate’s court. In her plea, Ranaut had claimed that the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court had “indirectly threatened” her to issue a warrant against him if she failed to appear before him in the bailable offence.

In October, the chief metropolitan magistrate rejected Akhtar’s application for transfer of his defamation case to another court. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate had said that while hearing the case against Ranaut, the Metropolitan Magistrate behaved fairly and did not show any discrimination against the actress. Akhtar had filed the complaint in the Andheri court in November last year and claimed that Ranaut had made defamatory statements against him during a TV interview, which allegedly damaged his image.
