Indian-American Bhavya Lal has been appointed as the acting head of the US space agency NASA. Red is a member of the NASA’s newly elected President Joe Biden on the NASA change review team and oversees change-related work at the space agency under the Biden administration. NASA said in a statement that Lal has vast experience in engineering and space technology. He worked as a Research Staff at the Institute for Defense Analysis Science and Technology Policy Institute from 2005 to 2020.
Lal also led the White House’s Science and Technology Policy and National Space Council, as well as the US space-related programs, including NASAA, the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Red Space Technology, Strategy and Policy is also an active member of Red Space Technology and Policy Community. Bhavya served twice in a row at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Federal Advisory Committee on Commercial Remote Sensing.
Along with this she was an external council member of the Technology, Innovation and Engineering Advisory Committee of NASA’s Innovative Advanced Concepts Program and NASA Advisory Council. Lal holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering and Technology and Policy. Along with this he did his doctorate in public policy and public administration from George Washington University.
Bhavya worked as a research staff at the Institute for Defense Analysis Science and Technology Policy Institute from 2005 to 2020. Prior to joining the Policy Institute, Lal was also the President of a science and technology policy research and consulting firm. Along with this, Bhavya Lal has also been the director of a Global Policy Research Institute in Cambridge.
