Panaji, Goa Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Michael Lobo on Monday resigned as a member of the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet as well as a member of the Legislative Assembly. His resignation comes ahead of the assembly elections to be held in the state next month. So far, Lobo, who is representing Kelangute assembly constituency, has submitted his resignation letter to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.

Lobo, who is in charge of the state waste management department, told reporters, “I have resigned from both the posts. I will see what steps I have to take next. I have also resigned from the BJP.” When asked about joining the Congress, Lobo said that he is in talks with other political parties. He claimed that people are unhappy with the BJP’s rule in the coastal state. “Voters told me that the BJP is no longer a party of the common people,” he said.
