Aurangabad: In the Streets for People Challenge organized by the Central Government, Aurangabad has won the ‘Streets for People Challenge’ by making it to the top 11 out of 113 cities across the country. The award was announced at an online event organized by Smart Cities Mission. Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited implemented the Street for People Challenge in Aurangabad under the guidance of Chief Executive Officer and Aurangabad Municipal Commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey.
Municipal Commissioner and Smart City CEO Astik Kumar Pandey expressed happiness that Aurangabad has surpassed many famous cities of the country to be ranked 11th out of 113 cities in India in the Streets for People Challenge, saying that it is a huge success for the city. The Streets for People Challenge was launched by the Smart Cities Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, with an aim to make walking on the streets accessible, safe and inclusive for all. The concept is for all sections of the society to walk and beautify public places. As part of the campaign, Aurangabad Smart City has focused on ensuring parking discipline, improving the walking experience, improving pedestrian safety, enhancing aesthetics, creating space for socialization, boosting the local economy and improving the visitor experience. Organized Open Street Program at Kranti Chowk and Connaught area for As part of Streets for the People, Aurangabad organized open street events at Paithan Gate, Kranti Chowk and Connaught. The traffic on the open roads was closed to give the citizens the experience of vehicle free roads. It got a smooth response from all levels.
Changes will be made in parking policy
Aurangabad Smart City has designed for transformation of 4 roads. Kranti Chowk to Gopal T, Paithan Gate to Gulmandi, Connaught and Priyadarshini MGM Street. Sneha Nair, Assistant Project Manager, Aurangabad Smart City said that many meetings have been held with the officials of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, traffic police, shopkeepers, residents and public representatives. Nair said that based on the feedback received during the meetings, we will make necessary changes in the design and implement it in the next few months. Changes will be made keeping in mind the hawkers zone policy and parking policy being prepared under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Aparna Thete of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation.
