Aurangabad: The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation and Aurangabad Smart City have appointed the World Resource Institute, India (WRI) to prepare a climate action plan for the city. An agreement was reached in this regard on Wednesday. The agreement was signed in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
Astik Kumar Pandey, CEO of Aurangabad Smart City and Municipal Administrator, held an online discussion with the WRI representatives on Wednesday. At the time, Lubana Rangwala of WRI said that heavy rainfall, rising temperatures, turning, drought and cloudburst were all due to climate change. He said that it needs a well planned program to stop it in time and that is why WRI wants to prepare a climate action plan for Aurangabad city.

The two main parts of the Climate Action Plan
The Climate Action Plan of Aurangabad has two main parts. The first is to reduce pollution and the second is to prepare cities and citizens for climate change. This will enable WRI to assist Aurangabad in achieving a better position in the Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework of the Central Government. As per the agreement, WRI will provide Aurangabad city with a 30-year action plan in five phases till 2023.
Children’s Investment Fund Foundation assisted financially
After signing the agreement, Commissioner Pandey said that the Municipal Corporation would set up a dedicated Climate Change Department. The department will be headed by a Deputy Commissioner level officer. The department will be inaugurated in January by Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray. On this occasion, Municipal Engineer Sakharam Panjade, Aditya Tiwari of Smart City and other officials were present. This scheme will help the city to get funds to work on climate change under various schemes of the central and state governments. The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation has provided financial assistance for this work.
