This preparation is taking place amid reports that Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has rejected the government’s application to hold the election of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly during the winter session of the Legislature. However, the state government and the Raj Bhavan have not confirmed this.
It is noteworthy that a delegation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had met Koshyari on Sunday and submitted a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, seeking the Governor’s approval to hold the election of the Speaker during the winter session of the Legislature. . State Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat (Congress), Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal (Nationalist Congress Party) were among the leaders who met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Sunday evening. Talking to reporters after meeting the governor, Congress Legislature Party leader Thorat had said, “The governor has sought details of amendments in legislative rules to conduct elections by voice vote instead of ballot paper.”

“The governor said that he will discuss with legal experts and get more information and convey his decision on Monday,” he had told. “The letter was sent to the Chief Minister in a sealed cover this morning,” sources said on Monday. When asked about the contents of the letter, the senior state minister, on condition of anonymity, said that there will be a cabinet meeting today and “we are trying to find a solution”.
“Election of the Speaker of the Assembly will be held tomorrow,” he said. Shinde, who was part of the delegation that met the governor on Sunday, had said that the process for holding the Speaker’s election has been changed as per the rules. It is noteworthy that the post of Speaker of the Assembly has been lying vacant since February this year due to the resignation of Nana Patole. Patole had resigned from the post of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to take over the post of Maharashtra Congress State President.
