The Maharashtra government had in March this year constituted a single-member commission of Justice (retd) Chandiwal to probe the corruption allegations leveled by Parambir Singh against the then state home minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Deshmukh.
Singh, who was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner in March following the seizure of explosives near Antilia, had alleged that Deshmukh had asked police officials to collect Rs 100 crore per month from bars and restaurants in the city. The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate are probing the allegations leveled against Deshmukh by Singh.
