The whole world is troubled by mosquitoes. Many diseases are spread by mosquitoes. But America has made such a special species of mosquito, which it is preparing to release in its country. In fact, biotechnology company Oxitec has created billions of genetically-modified mosquitoes. The country’s Environmental Protection Agency has given permission to release these mosquitoes. These can be released in Florida and California.
These mosquitoes belong to the species Aedes aegypti, which will help in removing the mosquitoes that spread the disease from humans. Overall, America is preparing a special kind of treatment for the mosquitoes that spread the disease.
The number of mosquitoes will be controlled
Oxitec has been granted permission to release 2.4 billion mosquitoes in California and Florida. These Aedes aegypti mosquitoes will be non-biting male mosquitoes that can produce mosquitoes similar to themselves. That is, these male mosquitoes can reproduce themselves. According to the company, the purpose of this plan is to prevent the number of Aedes aegypti spreading disease. Mosquito-transmitted diseases are spread through the bite of female mosquitoes. In such a situation, when these genetically modified mosquitoes mix with female mosquitoes, the female mosquitoes that spread the disease will die, while the male mosquitoes can reproduce on their own. This will reduce the number of mosquitoes that spread the disease and these genetically modified mosquitoes do not bite humans.

Increased risk of disease-carrying mosquitoes
According to Oxitech, a company that makes genetically modified mosquitoes, the aim is to curb harmful diseases like dengue, zika, yellow fever and chikungunya. The company has released data saying that since these mosquitoes were first detected in California in 2013, the mosquito has rapidly spread to more than 20 counties across the state, increasing the risk.
experiment was successful
The company says that two pilot projects were approved for its prevention. One with the Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District (MVCD) in California, and the other with the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FMKCD) in Florida. Now this pilot project has become successful.
