Sanour/Banur: Punjab Lok Congress chief Amarinder Singh on Thursday slammed the Congress for declaring him as its chief ministerial candidate despite the arrest of a relative of Charanjit Singh Channi following the Enforcement Directorate raids.
The former chief minister “slammed the Congress for fielding MLAs who were allegedly involved in illegal sand mining as candidates for the assembly elections and termed it as open propaganda of deep-rooted corruption in the party.” According to the statement issued by the party, Singh said that he will not retire till he makes the state free from such corrupt people.

Promising to ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and continue to work for Punjab and its peace and security, Singh expressed concern over threats emanating from across the border and incidents of sabotage in the state. Terming the incidents of vandalism at the Golden Temple and the Patiala temple as “unfortunate”, Singh said, “We will not allow the social fabric of Punjab to be ruined.” He described these incidents as ‘an attempt to divide the society’.
Addressing public meetings in Patiala’s Sanaur and Mohali’s Banur in support of the PLC and BJP alliance candidates, the former Chief Minister said that Channi’s relative has been arrested by the ED and as per the information he has admitted that he had in the raids. The cash recovered from him has been deposited through illegal sand mining and other illegal activities. “So how can Channi claim to be a poor common man,” he said. (agency)
