Thane: The tenure of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) ended on 6 March. In such a situation, after a long gap of 36 years in the history of the Municipal Corporation, for the first time in the Thane Municipal Corporation, all the work has started under the supervision of the Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma. In 2017, the term of 130 elected and four approved corporators in the Municipal Corporation ended on March 5. Simultaneously, the tenure of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman, Leader of the Opposition and other committees’ chairpersons and nine division committee presidents also ended and all the work on these division committees is now under the supervision of assistant commissioners.
It is worth mentioning that the election of corporators and mayor of Thane Municipal Corporation should have been held by March 5, a day before this, but in the present situation it could not be possible.

Appointment of administrator for the first time
Thane Municipal Election has been postponed indefinitely due to Corona infection. Command in the hands of TMC Commissioner
From 6th March, all the workload of Thane Municipal Administration has come in the hands of the appointed administrator i.e. present Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Dr. Vipin Sharma. However, earlier it was being speculated that the General Assembly of Thane Municipal Corporation could be organized on March 3 regarding the budget. In which it was hoped that the budget might be approved, but due to paucity of time this could not happen and for the third consecutive year, the budget could be implemented without the approval of the General Assembly. However, before this, the Thane Municipal Administration had presented the budget proposal before the Standing Committee Chairman on February 10 itself. On the other hand, the situation which is being seen regarding Thane Municipal Corporation, many municipalities and municipalities are already struggling with this situation.
Administrative work has already started in these places
Apart from Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation as well as Kulgaon Badlapur, Ambernath Municipality, administrators have already been appointed. The administrator is holding the charge here for the last 2 years. The same situation with Thane Municipal Corporation has now become a history.
The Municipal Corporation took back the vehicles and offices of all the office bearers including the mayor
It is often seen that after the announcement of the date of election of the Municipal Corporation and then the code of conduct is declared, the vehicle and office of the mayor of the Municipal Corporation are taken over by the Municipal Corporation, but for the first time in the history of the Thane Municipal Corporation without the announcement of the election. The vehicle and office of other office bearers including the mayor have been taken back by the Municipal Corporation. In this way, the vehicles given to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman, Auditorium Leader, Opposition Leader have been withdrawn from the Municipal Administration. Along with this, the Municipal Corporation has taken back the vehicles of the chairpersons of five special committees of the Municipal Corporation, namely, Women and Child Development Department, Slum Patti Development Improvement Committee, Education Committee, Arogya Samiti and Sports Committee respectively. Along with this, the vehicle and office of the chairpersons of the nine divisional committees coming under the limits of the Municipal Corporation have also been confiscated by the Municipal Corporation.
