Wardha. National Tobacco Control Program has been implemented to keep citizens away from tobacco, under the program 715 people have been prosecuted for violating tobacco control. At the same time, a fine of Rs 14 lakh has been imposed. District Tobacco Control Committee chairperson District Magistrate Prerna Deshbhratar reviewed the situation. Directed to implement tobacco control campaign effectively.
District doctor Dr. Sachin Tadas, District Health Officer Praveen Vedpathak along with officials of education and related departments were present in the meeting. To keep citizens away from tobacco, the National Tobacco Control Program is implemented as public awareness and punitive action.
413 schools in the district are 100% tobacco free
Under the program, a district level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the district collector. Under the leadership of the committee, work is done for tobacco control in the district. Under this program, patients suffering from tobacco related diseases have been treated in the district in the last 6 years. Tobacco awareness programs have been conducted on a large scale in schools to keep youth away from tobacco. The harmful effects of tobacco are shown to the students through videos. 413 schools in the district are completely tobacco free.
Special squad working for action
The sale of tobacco and tobacco products is prohibited. The harmful effects of tobacco on items that are allowed to be sold should be taken into account. Also, such items cannot be sold in the school or college premises. Tobacco should not be spit in public places. Violators under the program will be punished. Under the programme, a special team comprising officials from the Police, Food and Drug Administration and Health Department has been constituted to investigate the matter.
