The most brutal massacre in the history of the African country Rwanda. In 1994, innocents were crushed like insects and murders in a 100-day-long slaughtering plot. Describing the people of a community as ‘cockroaches’, more than 8 lakh people were killed in one stroke. Now the main accused (Felicien Kabuga) of this inhuman brutal murder in front of international court is begging for mercy. (Rwanda genocide financier Felicien Kabuga lawyers says he is unfit for trail)
Lawyers for Felicien Kabuga, accused in the April 1994 murder, have said that all charges against his client should be dropped because he is unfit to face trial. Kabuga is now 84 years old. It is alleged that he had provided the money to the terrorist organizations for the massacre. Now this case is in international court.
Rwanda’s richest person
There was a time when Felician Kabuga was the richest man in Rwanda. He was arrested from France in May last year. Later the Hague international court was handed over to the ICJ. He is accused of killing 8 lakh people of the Tutsis and moderate Hutus community. The answer will be summoned in the international court regarding this. There are seven charges against him, including serious charges like genocide, inciting genocide and atrocities. Apart from giving money to the terrorists, he spread hatred for the people of a community through the media and provoked people to kill them.
Lawyers argued
Felician Kabuga’s lawyer Emanuel Eltit presented the affidavit on 6 May at the United Nations court branch in Tanzania. In this, the lawyer said that the medical reports are evidence that his 84-year-old client is not in a position to face the case. If the case goes on, it is a violation of the rights of Felician Kabuga and it raises questions on the fairness of the case. The lawyer argues that there is enough evidence to say that the case should be closed. At least he should be released on bail.
People had told ‘Cockroaches’
There are allegations that Kabuga created an atmosphere of hatred through the media to eliminate people belonging to a community from Rwanda. Not only this, the country’s richest man provided money to terrorist organizations. He used to say, ‘Kill Tutsi Cockroaches.’ Kabuga’s eldest son Donatian Shimuremai said in an interview to AFP that his father’s health had fallen significantly. We can clearly say that he is not physically and mentally ready for the case. Apart from being ill, he has fallen in jail twice. The trial of the case against Kabuga is going to start in a few months.
