McAfee Enterprise and FireEye have released a detailed report on cyber security, advising any business to take several important steps to enhance its cyber security ahead of the holiday season. The report titled “Cybercrime in a Pandemic World: The Impact of Covi-19” states that 77 per cent of companies in India faced downtime due to cyber security risks during the festive season in the last 18 months. Also, at least 81 percent of global organizations are facing cyber threats during Covid-19.
The study, conducted by market research specialist MSI-ASI, interviewed 1,451 IT and line-of-business decision makers in India, the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Singapore, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
According to IT professionals in India, the threat of cyber crimes increases the most during the holiday season. Nearly 52 per cent of professionals agree that cyber threats are at their peak during festive holidays like Diwali, Ramzan and Christmas. While 32 per cent reported more cyber threats during bank holidays and 12 per cent during the summer vacations of schools and colleges.

During this peak time, 91 percent of IT professionals found it even more challenging to maintain a fully staffed security team under the hybrid work model.
In terms of cyber risks, the top three cyber attacks were malware attacks (47 percent), data breaches (43 percent), and ransomware and cloud jacking (33 percent each); More than 30 percent of IT professionals experienced vulnerabilities in their “Internet of Things” devices.
Brian Palma, CEO of the newly combined company, said in a public statement, “It is imperative that all businesses at large evaluate and prioritize security technologies, so that they can be protected, especially during extreme weather such as the holidays. “
Interestingly, 82 percent of companies have invested in cloud security, 66 percent in advanced threat protection, 54 percent in security operations center, 48 percent in mobile security and 48 percent in end point security.
For additional security, 69 percent of organizations are implementing new software solutions, 68 percent are strengthening internal IT related communications, 62 percent are scaling up their software updates, and 61 percent are offering training programs for employees.
