Nagpur, For the homeless living on the sidewalks, roadsides and other public places of the city, the Social Development Department of the Municipality has started free Niwara Kendra service at 6 places. With the help of social institutions, all the Niwara Kendras are serving 24 hours. In view of the severe cold in the city, an appeal has been made to the homeless to take advantage of these centers, Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Deepak Kumar Meena and Deputy Commissioner Ravindra Bhelave have made an appeal.
He said that under the Manpa Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana, National Nagari Upajeevika Abhiyan, the Social Development Department has arranged for 6 redressal centers. 5 organizations are helping. The centers have a provision of 280 beds, of which 172 citizens are currently taking advantage. Citizens who are in search of employment in the city can also stay in these centers free of cost. For citizens above 60 years of age, breakfast and food are being provided at a low rate.

Vehicles are also arranged by the institutions to bring the homeless who take shelter on the footpath to the rescue center. The police also help. This month, 40 citizens living on the pavement have been shifted to the centers in 15 days as the cold rises.
