The Supreme Court has canceled the OBC reservation in the local self-government institution and directed to make these places general and take elections. Accordingly, the election process has been started from 29th December.
While January 4 was the last date for filing nominations, scrutiny of candidature applications was done on January 5. In which nomination applications of 1 candidates of Zilla Parishad and 3 candidates of Panchayat Samiti were disqualified. Similarly, on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on January 10, 17 candidates of JIP and 16 candidates of PNS withdrew their names. At some places, candidates have raised objections. This issue has also been resolved.

The role of 30 places will prove to be important in the power equation of the Zip. In this, 27 places will be required to establish power in a total of 53-member Gondia zip. The first phase of elections has been held for 43 places of JIP. In the second phase, elections are being held for 10 places. For this, the leaders of all the major political parties have geared up. Who gets success in this, it will be clear as soon as the results are declared on January 19.
